Many of you may know of BWB and their incredible fundraisers that have been held this year in a wherehouse in Barrio Logan. Well we are at it again, organizing what will be the biggest and best event that we have attempted so far. Our hallmark is bringing art and entertainment from the SD burning man community to a huge wherehouse space and then filling that creative beautiful space with the most loving and awesome people San Diego has to offer. I can not think of a better place to bring in the new year then with this community that has supported us for our last three hugely successful findraising events. I would also like to see any other people who are interested in contributing their art, music, or just great energy to make our new years eve the best party in town. We have some great talent lined up already for our show. But we are looking for more Dj's to spin the night away, and any kind of art that our community has to offer. We will be launching our website soon. Tickets will be presale only and will sell out fast. I will post a link as soon as we are operational. Until then if you know the BWB new years eve is where you want to be when the ball comes down, tell your friends and plan on ringing in the new year in SD burner style.

2009 Annual Pink Party!!

It may be hard to think about November, but keep in mind that this is all-inclusive (food, privately chartered yacht, entertainment, bikini fashion show, and more!)!!

That's right, not just a party this year! We have taken the leap to a weekend get-a-way, and this includes a private beach!

Where have all the gay hippies gone?

Hhhmmmmmm. Looking for a nice San Diego gay hippie type. Hippie is my state of mind not my hair style. Where do these characters hang out in SD? Certainly not the gay bars. I even posted a craigslist ad looking for gay hippies. You know how many replies? Good guess. Maybe I should have said "really liberal". Everyone thinks hippies have long hair and no job. Any DMB, string cheese or Dead fans that are gay? Haven't met any. That's just sad. How about a gay guy whose favorite band isn't Madonna. That would be cool. If anyone knows of a bar with a good mixed crowd, where this person may be. Let me know. Cuz I need him.

The Animal shelters need our help more than ever...

Escondido shelter is a great place to volunteer...go thru' the orientation...then you can walk the dogs up in the hills, get a GREAT workout...
you can read to them, give them love treatments, massage them, play with the kitties, clean their cages - just help - it feels good and they need it. With the economy so crap - it's time to give back....this is an especially great way to get some doggie time if you cannot have a pet yourself for whatever reason(s).

Boxer Dog available

He is about 5 years old...male...sweet and wiggly. This is an abuse case... if he goes to our shelter he will be euthanized.
As when they tried to catch pole him, he tried to bite them (so would I...) He just needs to be in a loving home. They have
kept him outside, he was very very thin, on a 40lb tow truck chain (off now) and his ears are being eaten terribly by flies which
I am trying to treat.... I walk him and he is fairly good on a leash...he'd be a great running partner for someone... the owner
has offered to give him away to a good home...this has taken me 6 months to convince her.... Let me know if you are interested.
He is fawn colored with a black mask and white chest....beautiful atheletic boy.

Contact Juggling- Greg
One of the most beautiful types of juggling... minimalism

in manipulation. Learn the basics of rolling and balancing

a ball with the world's first contact juggling teacher.

Beginning Double Staves:

Learn double staff from the ground up in this class designed for the beginner. After a thorough examination of the many myriad ways to manipulate a staff we begin combining techniques to seamlessly integrate a second staff.

Beginning Partner Poi:
Learn to spin with a friend. Partner poi is all about taking simple poi tricks and sharing

them with someone else. Learn 5 awesome moves in this class. Bring a partner or we'll provide you with one.

Beginning Contact Staff:
An introduction to contact staff manipulation with an emphasis on further learning. This class will take you through the basics of wrapping, rolling and spiraling with a staff. Hand, elbow, shoulder and neck wraps; halos and backside spirals

Intermediate Contact Staff:

We will explore taking fundamental contact moves and begin stringing them together into more complex move sequences including: conveyer belts, SNES, and Steves. We will also add a few more difficult individual moves to our contact vocabulary including: angel rolls and The Jesus.

Intermediate Poi Technique:

In this class we will explore several fields of moves that provide the foundation for many advanced poi techniques. We will cover isolation, stalls and 1.5's, inversions, flowers, antispin, and polyrhythm building up to an understanding of hybrid poi spinning.

Intermediate Double Staff Hybrids:

Bring both a set of poi and double staffs and learn twice as much! The concepts for spin and antispin hybrids are pretty much the same for both! You will learn many hybrids with only two different elements. This class will focus on full and half antispin isolation/hybrids and will give a new perspective to the hybrids you all ready know.

Looking for Dive Bars in Carlsbad

20+ years ago I lived in Oceanside and Vista areas and worked in and frequented dive bars throughout the North County.

Last summer I did a quick driving tour and it looked like most of the places I remember have been either torn down or renovated.

Are there any Dives left in Carlsbad ? Real Dives . . . that are dark, smell bad, have sticky floors, juke boxes, and pool tables?

I need information right away please! I have East Coast folks visiting and expecting a Friday Night tour.

Vacation!

My wife and I are going to San Diego for 3-4 days soon. I'm wondering what we should do. I used to live in san Diego twenty years ago, but never did the tourist thing, I lived in the bushes in balboa park while massively strung out on dope- had to escape with my life.
I think I would like to see the good side, 12th Av side, of Balboa park and the museums, and the Zoo. I want to go to the beach. But I don't know where to spend the other couple days. I want to get a decent hotel where I don't have to pay out my ass- we're just working stiffs, not rich. San Diego should be fun without an evil monkey on my back, but it sure is gonna bring back hella tough memories.
What else do you think we should do?
oh yeah what about point loma, that'd be nice. what's in coranodo?

Fire Rings to be REMOVED Jan 1st.

We've tried our best to get the word to the council and mayor that removing the fire pits is unacceptable. It clearly hasn't worked!
It now looks inevitable that the fire rings will be removed the from the San Diego Beaches, at least temporarily. We need to make sure that they are stored and not destroyed so that we can try to solve the fire ring issue with the newly-elected city council.
If the city had voted to eliminate them during the summer, we could have collected thousands of names just by walking the beach.
The voters showed their desire to maintain the beaches by passing SD's Prop C. $2.5 Million is budgeted to be spent on Mission Bay Improvements in 2009, but this does not seem to include maintaining an extremely popular existing improvement.

We have been covered on Channel 10 news and got a lot of chears at the Ocean Beach Christmas Parade.

Right now, find other groups that want to save the fire rings so we can work together. Also, contact the San Diego City Council and Mayor's office and complain. Make sure they don't destroy nearly $100,000 worth of the people's fire rings. (contacts are at the link above)

Don't forget! This coming Saturday, Zirk Ubu performs to benefit Foster Carriers, a non-profit dedicated to supplying luggage, personal, educational and financial support for foster children.

Early show (6:30pm) tickets include drinks, appetizers, and Zirk Ubu's performance, plus special selected silent auction items graciously donated by local artists and friends.

Late show (9pm) tickets include snacks and drink specials. Second sets of silent auction items will finish at 11pm.

Black's Beach in San Diego

So I received this email last night from a Black's Beach regular.
As a point of reference, the actual night of the full moon was Friday.

Since we canceled the Full Moon Circle, people seem to be going anyway and while
many Rainbows go on the night of the full moon to try to teach people how to
be conscious with the land and each other, the nights surround the full moon
seem to be an issue as well.

I went to Black's Saturday evening shortly before sunset and did some minor
trash pickup (cigarette butts and small scraps of plastic in the sand) as
well as removed some left over clothes, shoes, towels, etc. I didn't leave
until dark and there was no one there when I left - but I'm guessing later ....

At any rate, I am very sadden by all this. I've left the brother's name off
the email because who he is isn't important - what is important is the information
and pain he is sharing.

I'm always thankful for your efforts. We all mean well, but you have fallen short this last gathering. As I arrived the morning of March 22, there were still many people hiking up the trail. I saw one man rightly challenged for failing to keep his promise of carrying up cans. I'm sure he never kept that promise.

As I hiked down, I was saddened to find that steps had been taken from the trail. Just as we were getting ahead on trail upgrades, we suffered a setback. Soon afterward I discovered that volleyball poles had also been cut off. Soon after that I found the poles had not gone up in smoke. It was a senseless crime against us.

Eventually I learned that the vandalism of the trail had not taken place Friday night, but rather Thursday. Then Sunday I learned that a further act of vandalism had taken place Saturday night. More of the trail had been raided for firewood.

These acts of vandalism are taking place before, during and after your gathering. Abusive and irresponsible people are arriving before you, and staying after you have gone. I don't know what you can do about this. I just want you to be aware of the depth of the problem.

I feel a personal pain because I have done much of the trail upgrades. This vandal not only undoes my work. He leaves it in a dangerous state, specifically spikes sticking up. I hesitate to continue with our upgrades, because we may just be supplying him with more firewood.

Creating a San Diego Night Shift Workers Tribe (maybe)

Why maybe?: I am unfamiliar with San Diego. Maybe there is a sufficient social life for night shift workers, maybe not. If not, please read my message.

my use of "night shift:" approximately 10PM-7AM.

Greetings from Austin, TX. I'll keep this brief: I want one of you, or a few of you, to create a tribe for San Diego night shift workers and work to promote it. It is a great community service project. I worked the night shift for 6 months in Seattle, and I have talked to a few other people here in Austin who have worked the shift and I promise you that most know of the shift as being quite miserable. Books, movies, and video games, and the like, are not sufficient for people working the shift. People are social but the night shift generally does not allow people to be social enough. Fixing this problem would help society: the shift is necessary for businesses to function well, but the workers of the shift are neglected. Promoting: I advertised in the Austin Chronicle for 2 weeks. It was an unsuccessful ad, but I think the problem is that Austin does not have enough businesses open during the 2AM-6AM hours.
Solution for Austin: I think that what people in Austin need for developing a social life for night shift workers is successful models. San Diego is a larger city that probably has many businesses open for night shift workers. A tribe that caters to the night shift will help workers of the shift and businesses. Proper businesses can promote events such as the broadcasting of a rugby match @ 4AM @ such-and-such deli.

Fresh and Easy - Mostly Organic Grocery Store

So for those of you who live in North County ( Inland ) - there is a new store that just launched in Escondido on East Valley Parkway called FRESH & EASY.

It's way less expensive than most organic products ! I got 2 full bags of food for $35 !

- it's a blend of a Henry's and a Trader Joes (with some of the name brand junk too )... However, most of their stuff
is organic and in portions for a single or 2-3 person household - the prices are really good too ! They have their own brands of juices, hummus, smoothies, dressings etc... It's pretty cool. The store is a chain from England's " Tesco" Supermarkets - so far they have about 50 stores and plan to launch 200 in the next 12 months.

Tell me about your city, 4 days to visit

Hi everyone,
I am visiting some family in San Diego and they never give us a very good tour. So this trip I am doing some of my own investigation. I was hoping anyone could give me some good advice on going out, seeing some cool places and doing it with out spending much, not much at all.
This is what I have come up with so far. Whale watching off La Jolla shores. Do you think we can just go down there to one of the cliff sides and hang out look off the edge and walk around, without doing the boat tours. I haven’t been to that part of S.D. since 1994. Next going to the zoo its been more than 10yrs for me. Then the Birch Aquarium, or isn’t there and underground aquarium. Which one is your favorite for other worldly atmosphere and exotic and native animals? Now this may sound super touristy but I was thinking about going to Tijuana. My family has NEVER taken me. I really just want to go because I have never been. The busses from downtown, are they ez, seems the cheapest too? And then what to do once we get there.
Juice and I are outdoor types, kinda hippy, not into main stream partying or tanning, going to the mall is out. We like culture, food, drinks, theme bars and dancing (latino?). Going to places maybe only the locals know and don’t need to spend a lot to have fun.
Any help is awesome. Thanks and forgive my lengthy post here. :)

Spiritually and emotionally I believe that the universe will only bring to us the adversity that we can benefit from profit from and learn from.
This is why I remain calm although on the surface many families face a situation that seems quite devastating.
My personal processes of prophesy and divination tells me we are all traveling this path for a reason.

As a shaman and a warrior I have now chosen to represent the interests of great many people who are becoming homeless now here in one of the wealthiest countries in the world.
This is to be a great battle against evil men of wealth and greed who would profit from pushing desperate families against the wall and using their plight to strip them of the last of their assets, through manipulation and trickery.
I have recently found that their numbers are legion and millions of families will suffer unless we can find a way to change the present system.
I will now stake my very life on my ability to create an enormous shape-change transforming a time of despair into a time of love peace prosperity and abundance. Creating a time in which people in high places begin to act from their higher natures and extra efforts are compassionately made to create solutions for all families in crises and people who are in need.

If we of the spiritual community focus our mental, spiritual and community power on creating a resolution, together we can win this battle.
I understand that the spiritual materialists will turn a blind eye. We all understand that sometimes enlightenment is only a gown that is worn easily cast aside when it becomes inconvenient.

Now that everybody has their tickets for Burning Man, and might need some money for creating art, I want to send a reminder a new source of arts funding for performers and creators working in San Diego: the Sator Arts Foundation.

Applications for major (up to $3000) and minor (up to $1000) grants are now available, and will be due on April 1, 2008, with awards announced on May 17.

Cat Beach ?

Recently, many cat owners have been up in arms about the discrimation of their feline friends...Off leash cat beach.

Their arguement is cats should have their own beach and are requesting that dog beach in OB be turned into Cat Beach.
Cats are able to cover up their own fecies and dogs just leave it for humans to step in...cats leave 70% less waste than dogs
and the beach would be a large litter beach for them. We could raise our taxes to have a committee to watch the cats.

Should OB be turned into Cat Beach ?

Many dog owners disagree, stating that a cat will not fetch a tennis ball out into the water ; most cats cannot swim and the
parks are simply not enough for dogs to get their exercise. They could also be a potential mauling of dogs by the cats trying
to claim their territory.

The John Butler Trio (JBT), and Brett Dennen, will play at the SD Coastkeeper beach cleanup as part of the Good Excuse to Get Involved Campaign on Friday, November 30th at 1pm, in Ocean Beach with the beach cleanup to follow from 2-4pm. This event is a partnership between JBT, CLIF Bar through the CLIF Green Notes Program to provide education, tools and incentive for music fans and artists to reduce their environmental impact, adopt a more sustainable lifestyle and take positive environmental action. CLIF Bar and their Green Notes Program aims to show that simple changes and collective action can have a dramatic impact – without sacrificing the things we enjoy…like live music.

Come out and help keep our local beaches clean, while getting to enjoy some amazing sounds from John Butler and Brett Dennen and learn first hand how these two musicians are taking steps to lighten their environmental footprint. The event will take place at Ocean Beach Park in the grassy park area across the parking lot from the beach. Click here for a map. San Diego Coastkeeper will host and informational booth, along with their beach clean partners Surfrider Foundation. There will be a raffle after the cleanup is over with some great raffle prizes, including a sustainable guitar and some tickets for the concert that night. In addition, that evening Coastkeeper will host a booth at the John Butler Trio concert at 4th and B in downtown San Diego.

cheap online teaching credential with Cal StateTEACH

(I'm just trying to help spread the word about this program because I'm really happy with it.)
I am getting my teaching credential online through Cal State TEACH, a credential program through the Cal State schools. A lot of people don't know about the program, but it's awesome. It's less than $8,000 - about half the price of National University - and you don't have to take any classes. I live in San Diego, and I teach in Chula Vista. I have a faculty member that is my contact person who lives in San Diego, but I'm technically enrolled at Cal State Fullerton. It's not an easy program, but I'm really happy with the work I have to do - it's all helpful things I need to know to teach. It takes 18 months to finish the program. If you're already teaching without a credential you can enter this program and not do any student teaching.

Curious as to what other San Diegeans think... Personally, I'm really proud of our city
and how we came together during the last few weeks. We kicked some serious butt
helping one another, reaching out. The Qualcomm shelter was amazing...entertainers,
people being pro-active to one another, no violence. We didn't act as victims, but came
together to support one another. There's very few cities that can truly say that... I am really
sick of Turko from KUSI trying to find the wrong in all of this...nothing is perfect, they did their
best ( CAL Fires and the military)...I am so proud of our city and our people.

Any thoughts ?

"A council to discuss how to create a safe, sane full moon circle
at black's beach that supports peace and healing and the positive evolution
of the planet. All people who attend or want to attend the full
moon circle are strongly encouraged to come and share their ideas
and suggestions"

We have held councils at this location in the past to discuss issues with the Full Moon Circle. The directions we used in the past were

Directions: Stonehenge is at the Southwest end of the UCSD campus adjacent (just north) of the Theater District.

If you're coming by car, from Interstate 5 exit La Jolla Village Drive and go west. Get in the far right lane as soon as you are west of the Interstate. Exit onto Gilman Drive North (the far right lane will veer off onto Gilman Drive. Turn left on Scholars Drive South (the first left). Continue past the Che Cafe. Stonehenge is just past the Che on the right hand side of the road. For parking, continue past Stonehenge and turn right into parking lot P103 (the first lot on the right). No parking permit is required on weekends.

If you're coming by bus: take the North County Bus 101 or San Diego Transit buses 30 or 41 and get off at La Jolla Village Drive at Revelle College/Theatre District. Walk north past the theaters. We'll be south of Revelle Plaza.
